To allow all children to get the full benefit from their nursery experience, we are aiming for them to come to nursery every day they are able to.
Why should I bring my child to nursery school regularly?
- Evidence shows us that it is important to get children into regular patterns of attendance.
-
Attending nursery everyday prepares children for when they reach compulsory school age.
- Children who miss nursery sessions miss out on vital social play – learning how to make friends, sharing and taking turns.
-
Listening as part of a group needs to be learned and practiced to build attention span.
-
For children to learn new skills and embed them, they need to repeated and practised over and over again.
- 90% attendance is like having a day off every 2 weeks.
- 80% is like having a day off every week.
Does it matter if my child is late?
- Arriving just 5 minutes late each day means your child misses 5 full sessions of nursery over the year.
- Arriving half an hour late means your child misses 31 sessions over the year.
-
Children who are late, miss their key worker group session where adult led teaching takes place which creates a sense of belonging.
-
Children quickly become aware of nursery routines, it can be off putting for them to join late.
