We Love The Snow

17th January 2019Jodie Wilkinson

What a surprise when we noticed it had been snowing outside! We put on our wellies, our warm hats and coats and off we went to have some fun. We made snow balls, we made tracks in the snow and we sledged down the hill. We hope the snow stays, so we can have more fun tomorrow!

This term we are exploring traditional tales.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears is our first story.

In Purple Group we have been playing Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have dressed up as the characters in the story. We have made huge pans of porridge collecting the ingredients from the garden. We have had great fun chasing Goldilocks. “The naughty girl!”

Musical discoveries with Dr Brendon Renwick

17th January 2019Jodie Wilkinson

We are very lucky to have Dr Brendan Renwick for the next five weeks to deliver his musical discoveries programme.

This week we had an opportunity to explore instruments and the sounds that they make. We enjoyed singing and dancing with Brendan. It also gives us the opportunity to become more confident towards unfamiliar people and in a  different social situation.

Halloween fun continued..

23rd November 2018Jodie Wilkinson

Halloween is a fun time of year for all the children. We have celebrated this festival with crafts, cooking and dressing up.

Pumpkins have been used in  activities. The children have helped practitioners to carve images and pull out the seeds using different tools. The inside is a great resource for exploring and using all the senses as well as learn about the vegetable.

Halloween is a lovely opportunity to be imaginative by painting and listening to stories. We even made our own ‘monster play dough’.

13th November 2018Jodie Wilkinson

Green Group have now completed their five week programme at Herrington Woods and we can honestly say they have enjoyed every minute from leaving nursery in the mini bus to building camps, bug hunting and making their very own camp fire to make toast on.  We have had such a fabulous outdoor learning experience over the past five weeks and would like to thank Washington 3rd scouts group for the use of their mini bus.

Red Group children will be next to take part in the programme beginning March 2019.  Letters and more information will be sent out next term.

We love books!

5th November 2018Jodie Wilkinson

The children in Blue Group have been listening to ‘Dear Zoo’ and ‘Oh Dear’ by Rod Campbell. They love to join in with the familiar phrases and are now choosing the stories independently. They look at the pictures and use them to retell the story in their own words.

Some of the children have been building houses in the construction area for the animals out of the stories. They’ve even made their ‘dinner’ in the home area!
