Outdoors we have been focussing on developing our physical skills.  Activities have included:

  • balancing on beams
  • walking on stilts which requires coordination
  • throwing and catching using bats
  • aiming and throwing using large hoops.

The children have all responded well to the activities and have persisted at developing a particular skill.

Physical Development

  • Sit up, stand up and balance on various parts of the body.
  • Show respect for other children's personal space when playing amongst them.
  • Go backwards and sideways as well as forwards.
  • Experiment with different ways of moving.
  • Show an understanding of the need of safety when tackling new challenges.
  • Observe effects of activity on their bodies.
  • Engage in activities requiring hand eye coordination.
  • Use one handed tools.
  • Understand that equipment and tools have to be used safely.

Some of the children worked cooperatively together to make their own game outdoors.  They used the hoop as a target to throw the bean bag through.  They needed a little encouragement to take turns but, once they had established a line for turn taking, managed very well together.
